Martin was the father of field trials in the Midwest. He put on the first field trial in 1935 in the Midwest and helped each club from then on. He came from Ireland - was in Canada first and then came to Barrington, Illinois in 1925 to work for Mr. Howell. He brought the whistle with him from Ireland. He was the father of Mary, Frank and Jim - all trainers. Frank won the first National in 1941.
