This
blind was 239 yards and started behind a small
ridge, making it out of sight for the dogs. The
wind was right to left at about 10 to 40 mph.
The line to the blind was over the ridge, across
a prairie trail which connected to a road running
straight at the blind along a dike. Both sides
of the road were scented after every ten dogs.
The line then progressed into the water angled
to the right off of the road and across a small
spit of land for a re-entry.The dogs then had
to continue past a floating log and across a good
piece of water and past land on the right, to
a point where the bird was planted. The bird planters
were stationed upwind of the blind which caused
considerable problems for some dogs who beached
early. There were a variation of problems on the
road up front as well with dogs going into the
water on both sides and getting hung up in the
scent. A few dogs didn't want to get off the road
when they were cast into the water on the right
and into a varying wind. The weather played a
huge factor with this blind as squalls came up
and passed about every 40 minutes all day long
with sunny breaks in between. Usually when this
happened, a couple of dogs would be picked up.
The
test was completed on Tuesday. Callbacks
later listed 22 lost. Those are: 1, 5, 8, 9, 11,
14, 19, 34, 35, 36, 57, 58, 59, 64, 66,
71, 85, 89, 92, and 94.( It was reported that
all but a handful were pick-ups) Seventy-seven
remained in contention. Wednesday's test would
be water marks in the same area. Dog #40 will
start. Sorry, the first set of callbacks
posted had two errors - These are current ones.
