Reported by Dennis Voigt with assistance from Larry Baker

9th Series - Water Blind

The Ninth series water blind was held in a cattail and reed prairie slough. The mat was set behind a slight rise about 50 yards from the water. The line to the blind went over the rise into the water and over the left side of an island. It continued past a reed bed on the right and across a large island at 180 yds. which had been heavily scented and was rescented every 6th dog. There was also a boat and decoys to the right of the last point. They bird lay 261 yards from the line mat.

Both test dogs did well on the series and it took each about 15 minutes to complete. At 8:20 the first running dog, #34 appeared on line.

The work varied widely with 7 to 20 whistles employed to recover the bird. Several were  lost when they went out of sight on the last point. A wind blowing down and across the test became a major factor when it increased in strength.

The test ended at 11:20 and 4 dogs were dropped. The twelve remaining were: 1, 7, 11, 12, 16, 20, 25, 27, 30, 33, 34, and 36.

Tenth Series - Water Quad w/ Retired Gun

The marks were set up in the same pond as the 9th series blind. The line was moved 70 yards to the right. The test dogs ran at about 1:45 p.m. and it took about 30 minutes for each to complete. Dog 7 was scheduled to run first.

The first gun station was 235 yards out and threw a bird to the left (60 yards past the water blind.) .A second set 95 yards to the right then threw a bird to the left, from the corner of the pond down the dike. The third group (middle) was about 216 yards away and threw a bird to the right, along the shore and retired (At this point is is an inline triple). The "Go" bird was on the left and thrown to the small island that had been crossed on the water blind.

The series began at 1:30 p.m. the projected finish time was about 8 p.m.
