The National Stake itself is possible only because of the hard work of the many organizers and workers without whom there would not be a National as well as the following generous contributors.

The 2003 Canadian National Amateur Retriever Championship was held at Logan Lake B.C. starting on July 21st until July 26th. The actual grounds are twenty to thirty minutes northwest of Logan Lake on the Tunkwa plateau, an area of gently rolling grassland, fringed with stands of jack pine and dotted with ponds and small lakes. Those who have seen it agree that it is an almost perfect place for running retrievers.
Pre-trial events included the banquet held on Saturday night for all involved at the local Rec-centre. Dennis Daley co-ordinated the evening as master of ceremonies and close to one hundred people enjoyed an excellent roast beef dinner. Dinner was followed by the Calcutta under the very able auctioneering talents of Gord Benn. Yes, it was an evening for feeding the soul and emptying the wallet.
Sunday was busy with last minute training, directors meetings and dog vetting. In the late afternoon the Vancouver Island Clubs threw a beer and wine bash with the usual west coast fare of smoked salmon, prawns etc. Most people retired early in order to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the morning.
