Test 3 - Water Triple

Day 2 – Tuesday July 22nd

Again the day dawned with cloudless skies and by afternoon the temperature reached 33C or 34C degrees (92F or 93F). There were 48 dogs back and after the test dogs ran, Dog # 22 started at 8:20AM. The wind was variable, coming from the left early in the day, switching to quarter from the right later and than switching back from left to right.

Test #3 – Water Triple
The test was held on a point in a large pond fringed with tulies. The line was on a dirt mound 30 yds. from the water and the dogs went through a screen of tulies for each bird. No. 1 gun station was down the side of the pond with the bird thrown back from right to left from a boat on the water side of the tulies to land in the edge of the tulies at 170 yds. No.2  gun station, was on a hillside about 40 yds. from the shore and 157 yds.from the line. The bird was thrown from left to right. Gun Station no. 3 was on the edge of the pond throwing from right to left into wading water behind a clump of tulies at 82 yds.

Four duck decoys were moored in open water between the lines to No.1 and No.2 birds. These served to pull some of the dogs heading for No.1 bird, causing them to land in no-man’s land between the two falls, running up the hill behind Gun station No. 1 and, after a hunt, many scented the No 1 bird or spotted the boat, to the relief of their handlers.

A number of the dogs were very loose on one or other of the birds with several dogs having to handle and 3 dogs being picked up.

Dogs # 5,11,13,18,19,20,21, 45 &51 were not called back for the 4th test.
