Saturday, July 16th

The campground is full at the Saskatoon Retriever Club trial grounds and things are bustling there. A tremendous Silent Auction has been set up with over 60 items including some fabulous original works of art. The judges have finished set up and are happy with their tests, so will have a day of rest tomorrow to get ready for the start of the National Amateur on Monday morning.

The Banquet at Sunset Hall was a great success. The hall was decorated with banners from NRCC sponsors (Tritronics, Iams, Purina and Dogs Afield) and banners from local sponsor as well as programs from all the previous Nationals and National Amateur competitions. Approximately 90 people attended and enjoyed a dinner including ham and turkey , a variety of fresh vegetable and salad dishes and Saskatoon Berry crisp. Field Trial Marshall Dr. Doug Hildebrand announced that this was the wedding anniversary of Sue (Field Trial Secretary) and Garry (Field Trial Chairman) Taylor, and they were toasted by all of the attendees.

The test dogs were announced:

Female Test dog:

FIFTH AVENUE’S ROCKIN’ REBA, owned by Gord and Marlene Benn, handled by Marlene

Male Test dog:

BLUEGOOSE’S JUST CALL ME MISTER, owned and handled by Rob McDougald

Gord Benn presided over a very entertaining and successful Calcutta. After the calcutta Earla Lardner drew the starting dog number. Dog 43: FTCH AFTCH CISCO, owned and handled by Al McKean will be the starting dog for the first test.

The first test was rumored to be a land triple.
