Qualification Requirements for a
National Open Championship Stake
Qualification Requirements: A First Place carrying five Championship points plus two additional Championship points in Open, Limited or Special All-Age Stakes in AKC Member or Licensed Trials in the current calendar year. Winners of the previous year's National Championship, current year's Canadian National and the current year's National Amateur Championship Stake are automatic qualifiers - but the last named must be handled by an Amateur in the National.

CHAPTER 14 - RULES FOR RETRIEVER TRIALS
SECTION 12. A National Championship Stake for qualified Retrievers shall be run not more than once in any calendar year by the National Retriever Club under the Rules and Procedures for Retriever trials subject to such modifications of these Rules and Procedures as may be considered necessary by the National Retriever Club. The club may also make special Rules and Procedures as are deemed necessary for the conduct of the stake. Modifications of the Rules and Procedures, as well as such special Rules and Procedures as may be made by the National Retriever Club, are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of The American Kennel Club. The winner of such stake shall become a Field Champion of Record if registered in The American Kennel Club Stud Book and shall be entitled to be designated "National Retriever Field Champion of 19 ---."
