Thirty-seven dogs were called back to the Sixth Series, which was a 300 yard Land Blind with a strong cross wind in varying terrain and cover that crossed a road near the end of the blind.

The judges called all dogs back who did not pick up or fail the blind. More extensive evaluation of work on this and the next series would be done more fairly after the day was over and judges could take a closer and fairer look at the work and callbacks for the eight series.

There were 32 dogs called back to the Seventh Series which began around 2:30 pm with Dog No. 43. The Land-Water Blind was about 220 yards long and cris-crossed the line to the Sixth Series Land Blind. Dogs running this blind had to diagonally cross a road and then cut a corner of a channel before driving up into the field where the bird was planted. A strong left to right wind was present during most of the test.

The series ended at 4:45 pm with Dog No. 40. There were nine pickups on this blind. 13 Dogs were dropped and the National Open was reduced a field of 19 dogs beginning with the Eighth Series on Friday morning. The Eighth will reportedly be a Water Triple.

Summary

A Summary of Callback and Drops by Series gives a a complete picture of dogs remaining in contention and a Series by Series summary of when Dogs have been dropped. Reports are that the following dogs are fairly "clean" after the Seventh Series: 20, 22, 24, 51, 52, 70, 73, and 78. The last three listed are reported to be running a good trial relative to the rest of the field so far. With only three more series to go, it is unclear tonight whether the 1997 National Field Champion will be announced Friday evening or whether the trial will be completed on Saturday as expected.

We'll try to have the latest results posted as soon as possible on Friday (and Saturday if necessary), especially the announcement of the Winner and the Finalists.
