Day 1: Monday, July 12, 1999
Monday July 12, 1999 dawned a fairly nice day after a tremendous lightshow and thunderstorms late Sunday night which had both judges and workers deep into worry mode.
The first series was at the site of an old farmstead and was a fairly straightforward land triple facing northeast. Gunstation #1 was in the centre about 150 yds deep and threw a drake mallard to the right into a area of heavy marsh grass well trampled by cows. Gunstation #2 was to their right approx 115 yards from the line and threw a drake mallard to the left into fairly light cover. The line to this bird just caught the edge of a square dugout which was just to the right of the post. Gunstation #3 was to the left and threw a rooster pheasant to the right about 110 yards out.
Most dogs did fairly good work on this series with the biggest hazard being cheating on the water which then caused more push away on the centre bird.resulting in several dogs backsiding the guns. Lost in this series was dog #20 who picked up. One dog # 22 handled.
Series 2 was a land blind run from a line to the right and10 yards back of the post for the marks. It caught the end of the dugout and then backsided the centre gun to an area about 50 yds deeper. there was a lot of trouble with initial line, with several dogs requiring numerous whistles very early to avoid a water cheat. 8 dogs were lost to this series leaving 39 to tackle tuesdays water triple.
Dropped were: 1, 22, 25, 28, 35, 38, 42, 49
