Day 6 Saturday July 17, 1999
Hi everybody-sorry for the delay. (WRC Note: received Monday July 19th)
Saturday dawned cloudy and cool with a light SSE wind, this wind made necessary a move to an alternate location for the 10th series.
The water quad was set up on a high mound looking straight north accross a large L shaped pond about 30 yards wide. The south shore of this pond was the location of the 6th series water triple. directly below the line was a small pond opening into the larger pond over a small spit This pond was enclosed by a high mound where the gallery was located. Gun 1 was about 375 yards out beyond the end of the north-south leg of the large pond, they threw a drake mallard to the right and then retired. Guns 2 were to the left and about 40 yds closer to line, they threw a drake mallard to the right. Gun 3 was on the hill above the small pond about 30 yds from line. They threw a hen mallard downhill to the shore of the small pond. Gun 4 was far right beyond the E-W leg of the pond and threw a drake mallard to the right.
Dog 46 ran first. Dogs were extremely attracted to Gun 3 because of its relative closeness and this caused problems. Some dogs got out into the area behind 3 and between 3 and 2 which quickly became clear was a very poor place to be. Several dogs handled and one (21) picked up. Dog 41 -Ritz did a great job, with a really good line to gun 2 down the long shoreline. As each dog completed the test they were photographed with the judges.
When the test completed all returned to the campground for presentations.
The Wild Rose Retriever Club presented each finalist with a sculpture and the winner was announced.
Dog 9-NAFTCH NAFC FC Ebonstar Lean Mac had repeated as 1999 National Amateur Champion.
The winner was toasted and owner handler Sherwin Scott invited all to Camrose for drinks and Dinner.
