Day: 4 Thursday, July 16, 1999
Hello everybody from sunny Alberta. Thurs @ 6 AM 4C winds NNW 30-50 kmh driving rain snow reported 60 miles south. A bitch check was held @ 7:30AM which all passed. Judges Dave Wardle, Art Roy, and Fred Benjamison took pity on the workers and decided to run a double land blind and call it a day. The test site was a fairly open uncut hayfield with a bluff of trees about 150 yds from the line. Blind 1 was to the left of this bluff and slightly left of another small batch of bushes. Blind 2 was to the right of the bluff behind an area of really heavy marsh grass. The windwas blowing across the test from right to left and the left blind was picked up first. I think the judges expected the right blind to be a
factor in the left one but due to the vagaries of wind and scenting it didnt seem to. The largest factor seemed to be a road running into the field at a 60 degree angle to the line to the blinds. All dogs were fairly clean here with several line jobs of one or the other blinds. All 24 dogs called back to 8th series land quad on same site at 7;30 am Friday.
Everyone was glad to have an early day to prepare for the workers banquet at the Round Hill hall. We had a great dinner, a small auction-both silent and live and numerous door prizes were awarded. The gun captain handed out workers pins and besides those earlier acknowledged would like to thank Ron & Jan Hains, FT Chairman Gord Benn, Damien Gynane, Hank Reinbold, Graham Bowman, Glenn Norton, Ken Gilmet, Mark Snyder, Dale MacDonald, Buck McKenzie and Bob Clark plus many others. Sherwin Scott, the owner handler of Lean Mac gave a short speech thanking
all involved for putting on a good National.
