Good question. I believe the answer to be very simple. Our dogs live longer nowadays than they used to. Cancer is most
commonly a problem in our geriatric patients. Not always but I definitely believe a large majority of them are older dogs. As far as
prevention, not really. Nothing I am aware of as a direct preventative. I do believe like humans though that those dogs that are fed
super premium quality diets have less of these types of problems. Heredity? We do know that certain breeds are more predisposed
to developing certain types of cancers so it would not be a stretch to believe that within certain lines of a particular breed there may
be a predisposition to developing certain types of cancer. I am not aware of any research that can back up this suspicion but I do
believe that there may be a hereditary predisposition to some types of cancers.
