Abbreviation for Amateur Field Champion

come (here), and sit. Also, simple handling and lining drills, force fetch.

bird boy
A field helper who plants blinds and throws birds

bird dog
A dog trained to locate and/or retrieve game birds

bitch
Female dog
___________________________________________________________________________

blind
A bird or dummy planted where the handler knows the location but the dog
does not
___________________________________________________________________________

blind retrieve
Dog is directed by handler to a hidden bird or dummy.

blind, holding
A fabric (usually) screen put in place to hide a retired gun or prevent a 
dog from viewing a test before he has run

blink
Refusal of a dog to pick up a bird or training dummy
___________________________________________________________________________
bolt
Dog leaves test refusing directives (whistles) to stop or return to
 handler.

Boykin Spaniel

break
Attempt of a dog to retrieve a bird/bumper before being released by 
his handler

brucellosis 
A contagious canine venereal (STD) disease. Can cause sterlity

Training object used as a substitute for a bird

A list of dogs invited back to the next test in a Hunt Test or Field Trial

cast
A whistle and arm signal given by a handler that tells the dog which 
direction to take to find a bird or bumper.

cast refusal
Dog fails to go in the direction ordered

Abbreviation for the Canine Eye Registry Foundation

Abbreviation for "Champion" (bench or show champion)

Channel, channeling
A dog which swims down the center of a narrow body of water lenghtwise

A dog which tries to break but is called back by the handler 
after a short distance. Permissible but subject to penalty in
 some hunt test and field trial events

cover
The vegetation growing in a field which can conceal birds 
and affect scenting conditions

creep 
Dog moves a short distance in the direction of a mark(s) while 
they are being thrown and before being sent for the retrieve

cue 
A voice or gesture from handler to dog used as a reminder
___________________________________________________________________________

Mother of a litter or dog

dead bird
A cue used by  handlers to indicate to the dog that a blind 
is to be retrieved

Derby List
The "National" list of Derby dogs earning ten points or more

Derby Stake
A  field trial stake for dogs under 2 years of age (AKC) which uses 
marks only to test a dogs abilities

When referring to a canine by sex, males are referred to as "dogs",
females as "bitches"

Two marks or two blinds

dragback
Scent that is left in the field by a dog(s) returning to the line

dry pop
A shot that is fired without throwing a bird.

A training device used in place of a bird for a dog to retrieve

A training drill which teaches a dog to fetch, hold and release
an object on command

freezing
A dog that refuses to release a bird to his handler is said 
to "freeze" on the  bird ___________________________________________________________________________

A dog who stops its hunt and looks at the handler for direction without
 being directed to do so is said to "pop". It is considered a fault.
