Jim Columbo

Hunter - Fisherman - Sportsman

A gentle, ever smiling man, always volunteering, ever ready to help.

A veteran, a Marine, who served in the South Pacific in WW II. He returned home to dedicate his leisure time to the Retriever Sport. He was one of a few sportsmen who tried the sport of learning about the game they pursued, the wildlife they saw, or the plants in the fields they tramped. He chaired the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission and helped establish their role and direction to that end.

He was ever ready to shoot, throw birds, plant blinds or judge the dog work, anything to help. He was at the first Amateur National Stake held in Park Rapids, Minnesota in 1956. He shot at the trial and through the years he served as "Captain of the Guns" many times. He attended over fifty National Stakes and his presence will be sorely missed by all who looked forward to seeing him there.

His cup was always half-full, not half-empty.
