November 1, 1997: SR Cabin Branch Heidi Girl SH (FC CFC Pinewoods Willy Makeit MH x Slew's Honcho Hummer) earned her Senior Hunter Title at the test put on by the Del Bay Retriever Club. Heidi went 4 for 4 - never failing a single Senior test! She needs only one more quailifying score from NAHRA to receive her Working Retriever Title. Heidi is full sister to Twin Pine's Jenni Slew who just became Qualified All-Age. Both dogs were bred by Vikki Diehl, Twin Pine Kennels. Heidi is proudly owned by Larry and Dinah Mundy. Larry has done all of Heidi's training and handling. Keep up the good work Larry and Heidi! [11/13/97]

 

November 1, 1997: Andy's First Shotta Tequila earned her HR title in Lousianna at the Cajun HRC hunt test. She is one of only eight titled HRC dogs with Limited Priviledge Registration. She earned the title the hard way...after passing Started, she passed her first Seasoned Test then earned the remaining points in the Finished Category. Way to go, Ross and Quila! [01/18/98]

 

October 26, 1997: Ali's Madonna Donna SH CD WC ** completed her SH by passing both tests at the Long Island Golden Retriever Club's double Senior Test at Manorville, New York on October 25 and 26. Donna and three of her littermates, Kiowa's AJ **, Ali's October Morn ** and Ali's Duck Demon ** all have Derby points and Qual placements or JAM's. Donna is owned and loved by Pat Boteze. October 19, 1997, Ada, Oklahoma: Chena River Ripple, owned and handled by Len Ferucci, became history's all-time High-Point Derby Dog by placing second at the Cimmaron Retriever Club Field Trial. "Ripple" now has 109 Derby Points. The previous record was held by the 1989 High-Point Derby Dog, NFC-AFC Candlewoods Tanks A Lot, with 108 Derby Points. [10/19/97]

 

October 19, 1997: 1996 NFC Storm's Riptide Star won the Open All-Age at the Lincoln Trail Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trial. "Rascal" is owned by Marilyn Fender and was handled by Dave Smith of Handjem Kennels. [10/19/97]

 

October 17, 1997: West's Dot "E", a 27 month old black Lab female, completed her MHR title at the Dallas Forth Worth NAHRA test on October 11, 1997. On Friday, October 17th she finished Third in the Cimmaron Retriever Club's Field Trial in Ada, Oklahoma. Dottie is owned by Tim and Nancy West and trained and handled by Tim West. October 5, 1997: Mountain High Nikki, a chocolate Lab female, 22 months old, earned her AKC Master Hunter Title at the Middle Tennessee Retriever Club Hunt Test in Smyrna, Tennessee. Nikki (FC AFC Esprit Playin' For Keeps x WR Milwaukee's Best Iron SH) qualified as a Junior Hunter, Senior Hunter and then Master Hunter in eleven months! Nikki is owned by Rick and Teresa Alexander, trained and handled by Rick Alexander. The breeder is Vikki Diehl of Twin Pine Kennels. A special thanks to Mike Osteen for endless hours of advice and Twin Lakes Kennels for use of grounds. Also, a special thanks to Gray Bennett for numerous hours of assistance and support. October 4, 1997: Nelson's Dakota Gunsmoke (Smoke), BLM, passed his third Seasoned Test at GateWay's HRC Fall Hunt. "Smoke" ran as "Test Dog in Contention". "Smoke" is owned and handled by Ed and Lesley Nelson. Special "Thank You" to Gateway Retriever's Club and Steve and Barb Duncan at Rend Lake Kennels, Mt. Vernon, Illinois. [10/07/97]
 
September 28, 1997: Southwind's Molly Rose (NFC-NAFC Candlewoods Super Tanker ex FC-AFC Itchin' Gretchin) completed her Field Championship and Amateur Field Championship at the Middle Tennesee Amateur Retriever Club field trial near Nashville. "Molly", owned by Dick and Charlotte Kaiser, and handled by Dick, placed second in the Open All-Age to complete both titles. [09/28/97]
 
September 27, 1997: Twin Pine's Jenni Slew, yellow Lab female (FC CFC Pinewood's Willy Makeit x Slew's Honcho Hummer) became Qualified All-Age by being awarded Second Place at the field trial held by Central Savannah Retriever Club. She is owned by Mike Harris, trained by Bill Sims and was bred by Vikki Diehl of Twin Pine Kennels. Way to go Jenni! [10/02/97]
 
September 22, 1997: Candlewoods Dakota Sweet Cash (Cassie) F.C.L. passed both of her Started tests at Guncreek HRC back to back September 20-21, 1997. Nelson's Dakota Gunsmoke (Smoke) BLM passed his second Seasoned test at Guncreek HRC, Sunday, September 22, 1997. "Cassie" and "Smoke" are owned and handled by Ed and Lesley Nelson. A special "Thank You" to Steve and Barb Duncan and Gateway HRC for all the great help. [09/23/97]
 
September 21, 1997: The Michigan Hunting Retriever Club held their fall hunt in Howell, Michigan and HR Sam's Marshland "Copy" (AFC Chase Manhatten x HRCH Vinces Samantha MH), handled by Marshland Kennels owner/trainer Bob Steiner passed the Finished Class test for her first Finished pass. [09/23/97]
 
September 7, 1997: The Alamo Retriever Club held their Fall 1997 Hunt Test. The test was run at the Mike Kohlman Ranch in Floresville, Texas on September 6 and 7, and the final results were: September 6: Master - 20 Entries, 19 Starters, 9 Qualifying Scores; Junior - 18 Entries, 14 Starters, 10 Qualifying Scores. September 7: Senior - 22 Entries, 19 Starters, 13 Qualifying Scores; Junior - 20 Entries, 17 Starters, 15 Qualifying Scores. [09/21/97]
 
September 6, 1997: "Harley" (aka Ch. Addidas Seawind Dragonfire, JH CDX WCX U-CD) finished her UKC "HR" title on Saturday, September 6 at Tri-State HRC, becoming the fifth Curly Coated Retriever to earn the title, the second bitch Curly, and the first liver Curly! Thanks to Chris Scott, the members of Old Hatchie HRC and Mid-South HRC, and all the owners of Curlies in the field! "Harley" is owned by Katharine A. Jungkind of Cordova, Tennesse. [09/21/97]
 
August 31, 1997: During a two week period in August, Honeycreek's Jammin' Jaco became Qualified All-Age at the Pike's Peak Trial and completed his MH title at the Colorado Foothills RC Hunt Test. Jaco is a 3 year old GRM owned by Linda Sikorowski and Jeff Warren and trained and handled by Jeff. [10/28/97]
 
August 31, 1997: HR Marshland's Rice Lake Mandy, BLF passed the Finished class at the Georgian Bay HRC hunt test at the Tiny Marsh Wildlife Area in Wyevale Ontario, She was handled by Aliced Steiner of Marshland Kennels. [09/21/97]
 
August 24, 1997: FC-AFC Bird Perfect won a Double Header at the Lake Champlain Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trial in Addison, Vermont. "Rocky", a black Labrador female, won both the Open All-Age and the Amateur All-Age Stakes and was handled by owner John Cavanaugh of Easton Pennysylvania. [08/25/97]
 
August 24, 1997: Ruthless Scalawags Scarlett earned her AKC Senior Hunter title at the Nebraska Dog and Hunt Club test in Lincoln, Nebraska. Scarlett is owned and handled by Meredith Kuhn, Critter Creek Farm Labradors. She is a chocolate out of NFC Storm's Riptide Star and CH Ruthless Ruthie CD, MH. She will continue training for Master and will take a short break from training this winter for motherhood. [08/31/97]
 
August 23, 1997: The Lake Ontario HRC held a hunt test at the Nonquon Wildlife area near Port Perry, (Oshawa) Ontario. The following dogs trained and handled by Marshland Kennels and Bob Steiner were successful: Sam's Marshland "Copy", BLF, (FC Jaybar's Chase Manhatten x HRCH Vince's Samantha AKA "Sam" MH) passed her 3rd Seasoned test which earned her the title of Hunting Retriever. Alpha-Omega's Toms Irish Mist (Maggie), CLF, was successful in her 2nd Seasoned test. [08/31/97]
 
August 16, 1997: A Marion Indiana, the Hoosier HRC held it's Fall hunt test. Marshland Kennels HR Black Swap's Super Shadow, BLF (GRHRCH Super Shooter of Ontario x HRCH Black Swamp's Tri and Tri Again) passed the Finished test. 1 to go for Hunting Retriever Champion. A chocolate Lab female, Maggie, owned by Tom Gleason and handled by Bob Steiner (Marshland Kennels) passed her first Seasoned test. [08/21/97]
 
August 9, 1997: Milwaukee's Jezzabelle earned her AKC Junior Hunter title at the ripe old age of 14 months! Jezzi is out of Dude's Dandy Raider M.H. and W.R. Milwaukee's Best Iron S.H. She was trained by Mike Osteen (E-Z Retrievers, Laurel Hill North Carolina) and Vikki Diehl. She is proudly owned and handled by Vikki Diehl, Twin Pine Kennels. [08/19/97]
 
July 6, 1997: Lion King earned his Master Hunter title at Western New York Retriever Club. Cody is a 3 year old yellow male sired by Fat Chance III out of Belquiest Sing-A-Long. Bred by Vikki Deal of Twin Pine Kennels, Cody was amateur trained and handled by his owner, Greg Myers. Cody ran 13 tests before he was ever dropped and has a career total of 20 tests with only 3 drops. [07/19/97]
 
June 22,1997: Mallard Lake Brute Magnum earned his AKC Senior Hunter Title at the Evergreen Golden Retrieve Club's AKC Licensed Hunting Test. "Magnum" is owned, trained, and handled by Mike Miller of Marysville, Washington. [07/19/97]
 
June 21,1997: Lil O's Blue Winged Teal earned her AKC Junior Hunter Title at Rainier Hunting Retriever Club's AKC licensed hunting test. "Teal" is owned, trained, and handled by John Otto Jr. of Marysville, Washington. [07/19/97]
 
June 14, 1997: Blackburn's Deepwater Kipper MH earned her Master Hunter title at the Talbot Retriever Club Hunt Test. Kipper is the youngest Chesapeake Bay Retriever, at 14 months old, to earn the Master Hunter title. Also, on her 14th month birthday, she qualified for the 1997 Master National. Kipper qualified in 6 staight Master test and had qualified in 4 Master test by 12 months old. Kipper is owned by Jimmy Blackburn and trained/handled by John Weller of Weller Kennels in New Bern, N.C. [07/19/97]
 

June 14, 1997: The Great Lakes HRC held a hunt test at the Ionia Field trial grounds in Michigan. This test was held during the UKC 100th anniversary week celebration period. The following dogs handled by Robert Steiner of Marshland Kennels were successful in passing. Sam's Marshland "Copy" passed her 2nd Seasoned test and HR Butler Creek's Super "Shadow" passed her 2nd Finished test. [07/19/97]

 

June 1, 1997 North Mountain Ripley earned her AKC Master Hunter Title and Qualified for the Master National at the Idaho Retriever Club Hunt Test held at Placerville, Idaho. "Ripley" is owned and and handled by Laura Nordberg of Eagle, Idaho. [06/04/97]

 

May 25, 1997: Josie's Hot Shot Pepper (FC-AFC Hammerin' Hawk ex Prissy Lissie) placed Second and Third respectively at the double Derby held by the Memphis Amateur and North Alabama Retriever Clubs near Coldwater, Mississippi. "Pepper", owned by Josette and Phil Clifton of Savannah, Georgia, now has 57 Derby Points and ages out of the Derby after the last trial to be held this year. [05/26/97]

 
May 25, 1997: Starfire Playboy "Tugger" achieved his Hunting Retriever (HR) title by passing his third Seasoned test at the Michigan Hunting Retriever Club's (MIHRC) Tenth Anniversary hunt test held at Sunflight Kennels in Howell, Michigan. Tugger is owned, trained, and handled by Pat Rondeau of Toledo, Ohio. He is also Pat's third HR titled dog. [05/28/97]
 

May 18, 1997: Ante Up (FC-AFC Westwinds Chances Are ex Beebe Baby), a yellow Labrador female owned by John and Clarita Emory of Louisburg, North Carolina, completed her Field Championship and qualified for the 1997 National Open Championship by winning the Open All-Age Stake at the Carolina Piedmont Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trial in Cheraw, South Carolina. She was handled to her second Open All-Age win of the spring by her trainer and handler, Mike Long of Madison, Georgia. [05/26/97]

 

May 18, 1997: Sundee's Yukon Jack earned the Hunting Retriever Champion Title at Hunt Tests sponsored by the Old Hatchie Hunting Retriever Club near Memphis, Tennessee on May 17th and 18th, 1997. Yukon earned his title in 7 of 8 finished tests this spring and is owned by Steve Kendall, President, Georgia Wingmasters Hunting and Retriever Club, Alpharetta. He is the progeny of CNAFC CFC CAFC FC AFC Gunstock's Caramel Crunch and Sundee's Kelly, progeny of FC AFC Wilderness Harley to Go and CFC Sundee's Kodiak of Delta. [07/19/97]

 

May 18, 1997: HR JD Kate's Lil La Grue Bayou (LR-F) attained her Champion title at Old Hatchie's Spring hunt test in Selmer, Tennessee. She was born January 19, 1996, and received her HR title on March 1, 1997. The titles were earned by passing all HRC Hunt Tests without one failure and before she was 16 months old! Kate is trianed, handled and owned by Jay Van Dover from Little Rock, Arkansas. All thanks to members of Pin Oak HRC for their help in these accomplishments! [07/19/97]

 

May 10, 1997: At the MSXHRC Hunt Test held at the Hullet Provincial area near Clinton, Ontario, Canada, these dogs handled by Bob Steiner of Marshland Kennels were successful: A Chocolate Lab female, (Maggie), owned by Tom Gleason of Munith, Michigan, passed her first Started test. Sam's Marshland "Copy" (BLF, AFC Jaybar's Chase Manhatten x Vinces Samantha) passed her first Seasoned test. Abby Marshland "Annie" (GRHRCH Super Shooter of Ontario x HRCH Shoup's Abby-Gale) earned her HR (Hunting Retriever) title by passing her 3rd Seasoned test. [05/26/97]

 

May 5, 1997: The Illinois River HRC Hunt Test was held on May 4 and 5, 1997 at the Banner Marsh Recreation Area near Canton, Illinois. Hybanks Nut N Honey earned her 500 points by lining the blind. Congratulations to Rod and Carol Rombauer, owners, and Don St. Clair, trainer/handler. [05/13/97]

 

May 4, 1997: Adair Jake Pickering CDX TD MH, a Golden Retriever owned by Jim and Kathy Pickering, completed his Amateur Field Championship at the Tall Pines Retriever Club's AKC-Licesned Field Trial. Jake placed second in the Amateur All-Age stake and was handled by Jim Pickering. [05/13/97]

 

May 3, 1997: Blackwatch Prairie Chico JH qualified in four successive hunt tests during Spring 1997 completing a Junior Hunt Title at the Central Oklahoma Golden Retriever Club Hunt Test at Shawnee Twin Lakes, Shawnee, Oklahoma. Chico is sired by FC-AFC River Oaks Way-Da-Go Rocky X Bouncy Raven of Blackwatch and owned, trained, and handled by Terrie Tomlinson. [05/08/97]

 

April 26, 1997: 13-year old Aaron Tindall has done an amazing job with his Chocolate male Lab, "Duke of Chocolate Thunder". Aaron failed his first started test with Duke because he had not given the pup any live birds. Since then he has passed every test he has entered with Duke: 2 Started, 3 Seasoned and 4 Finished straight. Aaron and Duke passed the Sandusky Bay HRC test on April 19 and again at the Lake Erie HRC test on April 26. [05/13/97]

 

April 26, 1997: The Lake Erie HRC held their spring hunt test at the Maumee Bay State Park near Toledo, Ohio, Alice Steiner of Marshland Kennels passed her second started test with her male Yellow Lab M "Wuzy". Mark Jusick of Jackson, Michigan passed his first Seasoned test with his Chessy, "Gunner". [05/13/97]

 

April 20, 1997: HRCH Northern Lights April Belle, Blk Lab Female, obtained the Hunting Retriever Champion Title during hunt tests held by The Old South Hunting Retriever Club at Burnt Pine Plantation near Madison Georgia. April earned the title in four back to back Finished Tests, is owned by Steve Kendall, President of Georgia Wingmasters Hunting and Retriever Club, Alpharetta, Georgia. April is progeny of GRHRCH Super Shooter of Ontario and HR Princess of Ontario. [07/19/97]

 

April 20, 1997: Fox River Valley HRC and Wisill HRC held back to back hunts on April 19 and 20th at the Bong Recreation Area near Burlington, Wisconsin. The following dogs trained and handled by Marshland Kennels and Bob Steiner were successful: HRCH Ben of Thundercreek passed the Upland hunt test both days. Abby Marshland's Annie passed the Seasoned test April 20. Alice Steiner handled and passed her dog "Wuzy" in his first Started test on April 20th. [05/13/97]

 

April 12, 1997: West Texas HRC - Twister's pups: Twister's Hell's Angel (Lab-F) and Twister's Raging Bull (Lab-M) (FC/AFC Wilderness Harley To Go and HRCH Pine Prairie's Stormin' Norma MH) received their HR title. [04/22/97]

 

April 12, 1997: Cajun Winchester's Jake WD (C/M) earned his AKC Junior Hunter title at the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metro Golden Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Hunting Test. "Jake" is owned, trained, and handled by Ray Young of Flower Mound, Texas. His pedigree contains the names of some very fine field and show dogs: FC Fireweed's Aleutian Widgeon, FC AFC Aleutian Surf Breaker, FC AFC Chesdel Chippewa Chief, CH Snocree's Gunner's Merit, CH Northcreek Storm Dance, and DC AFC Koolwaters Colt of Tricrown. April 5, 1997: On a cold, windy and rainy day in central Michigan, thirteen year old Aaron Tindall handled HR Duke of Chocolate Thunder, chocolate Lab male, to his second straight Finished Test completion. This HRC test was hosted by the Central Michigan HRC. Only 2 more to achieve the title of Hunting Retriever Champion! [04/17/97]

 

March 29,1997: At the Darke Wildlife Area near Covington, Ohio, the WCOHRC held a hunt test for the UKC/Hunting Retriever Club. The following dogs, trained and handled by trainer Robert Steiner of Marshland Kennels, were successful in passing their tests: Abby's Marshland Annie (BLF) passed the seasoned class test; HR Butler Creeks Super Shadow (BLF) passed the Finished test. Also HR Duke of Chocolate Thunder, chocolate Lab male, trained, handled and owned by Aaron Tindall, (GRHRCH Daphne's Chocolate Thunder x HR Murphy of Woostock) passed the Finished test. Aaron is thirteen years old! [04/03/97]

 

March 23, 1997: Shenandoah At Midnight SR earned his AKC Junior Hunter Title at the Labrador Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Hunting Test held at the C and D Canal in Delaware. "Sam" is owned and trained by Bud Gordon of Leesburg, Virginia. [04/03/97]

 

March 23, 1997: Twin Pine's Brown Sugar (Dude's Dandy Raider MH x WR Milwaukee's Best Iron SH) received her Junior Hunter title by getting a qualifying score at the Labrador Retriever Club Hunt Test held at the C and D Canal in Delaware. Sugar went 4 for 4! She qualified at the Susquehanna Retriever Hunt Test 10/96, Tidewater Ret. Club 11/96, Del-Bay Ret. Club and Labrador Ret Club 3/97. Sugar is owned, trained and handled by Vikki Diehl. Sugar will soon be running in the Senior stakes. Way to go Sugar! [03/27/97]

 

March 10, 1997: Greenwing's Chances Are Slim celebrated his 4th birthday by taking 2nd place in the Owner/Handler Amateur at the Central Savannah Trial on March 10, 1997. Slim is owned and handled by Gene Anderson and trained by Mike Long. [03/19/97]

 

March 8, 1997: The recently formed Mississipppi Valley Hunting Retriever Club held its first regularly scheduled training session Saturday, March 8th at Princeton Wildlife area, Princeton, Iowa. March 2, 1997: HRCH The Terminator earned his Master Hunter by qualifying at the Bryan-College Station Hunt Test on March 2, 1997. "Arnie" is sired by FC/AFC Super Bounce Andre and is out of GRHRCH Sweet Child O' Mine. He is owned by Bob and Adrienne Willett, Lagniappe Kennels, Brazoria, Texas. [03/12/97]

 

March 1, 1997: SR Cabin Branch Heidi Girl JH (FC CFC Pinewoods Willy Makeit MH x Slew's Honcho Hummer) became a member of the NAHRA 1997 All American Hunting Retriever Team by qualifying at the Southeast Regional Test in Virginia. Bred by Vikki Diehl, she is proudly trained and owned by Larry Mundy. [03/14/97]

 

March 1, 1997: SR Stillbreeze K.D. joined the NAHRA 1997 All-American Hunting Retriever Team at the Southeast Regional in Virginia. K.D. is owned and trained by Alan Foster of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. She is 2 yrs old and is sired by Boo's Black Boomerang MH and the dam is Back Creek's Raven. The breeder is Michael E. Osteen. K.D. will be starting her JH qualification events March 22, in Ft. Mill, South Carolina. [03/17/97]

 

February 16, 1997: Western Arizona Gun Dog Club held a licensed NAHRA test in Yuma Arizona. Highlands Bearcat, a black Labrador bitch earned her Master Hunter Title and qualified for the NAHRA Invitational to be held May 1998. "Tara", owned by Mark and Cindy Lowans, is out of GMHR Gadwalls Nightmare and sired by FC AFC Suncrest Bear. [08/31/97]

 

February 15, 1997: FC-AFC Sugarfoots Trialin Travis was named as the Atlanta Retriever Club's 1996 Dog of the Year. Handled by Margot Brown, Travis accumulated 24 all-age points with four wins, one second place, and one third place. [02/17/97]

 

February 14, 1997: Merganser's Classic Matlock won his second Qualifying stake in two starts at the Sagehens Retriever Club AKC Licensed Retriever Field Trial. Matlock is 28 month old chocolate Labrador Retriever male sired by 1992 BOB at Westminster Ch Trini T's Arnie out of an NAFC-FC Honky Tonk Hero daughter. He is owned by Dianne Morley and handled by Jerry Patopea. [03/06/97]

 

February 7, 1997: Merganser's Classic Matlock (28 month old chocolate Labrador Retriever male) (1992 BOB at Westminster Ch Trini T's Arnie X NAFC-FC Honky Tonk Hero daughter) won the Qualifying at the Lassen Retriever Club Field Trial. Matlock is owned by Dianne Morley and handled by Jerry Patopea. [02/09/97]

 

February 1-2, 1997: The American Water Spaniel Club, Inc. sanctioned two Hunt Tests held outside of San Antonio, Texas. Working Dog stakes qualifiers on February 1 were Ch. Beau's Jessie James and Wavecrests Nocona Deacon. On February 2 Working Dog Stakes qualifiers were the same two dogs, both now WD titlists! Started dog qualifier on February 2 was Ch. Beau's Winnie the Pooh. [02/12/97]

 
February 2, 1997: At the San Jose Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trial at Los Banos, California, Millforge Smudge won the Open, earning the title of Field Champion. Second place was taken by FC-AFC-CFC Tru-Line Keen Eyed Kate. Both dogs are owned by Joe and Gretchen Augustyn of Claremont, California and both were handled by Luann Pleasant. Last year at this same trial "Kate" took 1st and "Smudge" took 2nd, also handled by Ms. Pleasant. [02/03/97]
