December 6, 1998: HRCH Sundee's Yukon Jack MH earned his AKC Master Hunter title at the Palmetto Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Hunt Test held December 5th and 6th near Camden, South Carolina. This was his sixth Master Pass, having passed five Masters in a row this fall, which also qualifies "Yukon" for the 1999 Master National. Owned by Steve Kendall of Alpharetta, Georgia, and handled by Todd Harvey of Old Salem Kennels, who also handled him in four prior events, double headers, at Bluegrass Retriever Club in Kentucky and Tallahassee (Florida) Hunting Retriever Club. Yukon is a yellow Labrador Retriever sired by CNAFC CFC CAFC FC AFC Gunstocks Caramel Crunch X Sundee's Kelly. He will begin running licensed Field Trials this Spring. [12/06/98]

October 4, 1998: AFC Esprit's Farfetched, handled by Vicki Worthington, owner, placed second in the Amateur All-Age Stake and received an Open All-Age Reserve JAM at the Ohio Valley Retriever Club Trial. The Amateur second qualified "Fergie" for the 1999 National Amateur. Also Worth-It's Yosemite Sam won the Qualifying stake (handled by Pat Burns, owned by Vicki Worthington) and his dam, Hardlabor's Do It Nikki, won the Open All-Age Stake, handled by owner Deb Stukey. September 27, 1998: AFC Esprit's Farfetched (Fergie) won the Amateur All-Age Stake and took Fourth Place in the Open All-Age Stake at the Wolverine Retriever Club trial held at LaPeer, Michigan, September 25-27, 1998. Fergie was handled in the Open by Merry Lake, and handled in the Amateur by Vicki Worthington (owner). [10/01/98]

August 29, 1998: In the Big Sky Country of Montana two Alaskan Gals had success at the Montana Retriever Club Derby. Patsy Martin won with Zephyr Dace's Helen Wheels. This First Place puts her on the Derby List. Jaclyns' Cinder of Cole, handled by Lynn Cole, took second place. Patsy Martin also won the Amateur All-Age Stake with Trailcreek Blue's Dacey, the dam of the Derby winner. [09/10/98]

August 2, 1998: "Louie" Bustin Through Branches placed second in the Alaska Retriever Club Derby at Point MacKenzie, Alasaka. "Louie" is owned, handled, and trained by 19 year old Patrick Leonard of Eagle River, Alaska. This is "Louie" and Patrick's second derby placement and they now have six Derby points. At the same trial, Gig'em By Surprise "Happy" earned her 15th consecutive Derby Placment with a win and now has 40 Derby Points. "Happy" was handled by Dave Mosher of Burnham, Maine and is owned by John and Matt Harris and Dudley Millkin. Both dogs do not age out of the Derby until March, 1999. [08/08/98]

 
June 30, 1998: Jacklyn's Cinder of Cole, BLF, (FC/AFC Suncrest Bear X Hub's Miss Molly) earned two Derby ribbons in the ARC/AWRC Double Header Trial held at Point MacKenzie in the Mat-Su Valley of Alaska. In the Alaska Retriever Club Derby on Sunday the 28th, Cinder took a Derby JAM. In the Alaska Women's Retriever Club Derby on Tuesday the 30th, Cinder took First place. These were Cinder's first two field trials and she has been completely amateur trained and handled by her owner Lynn Cole of Willow, Alaska. Co-owner is Jack Cole. [07/09/98]

June 14, 1998: Trumarcs Screwy Louie completed his Field Championship by winning the Open All-Age stake at North Dakota Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trial in Fargo, North Dakota. Louie is owned by Gary and Jane Goffin and was handled by Chris Smith. [06/16/98]

June 8, 1998, 4:30 PM CST: The AKC Board Of Directors voted unanimously to admit Standard Poodles into AKC Retriever Hunt Tests, effective September 1, 1998.

May 31, 1998: At the Central New York FTC's 42nd annual spring field trial, Cohansey Creek Rip Tide***, a 3 yr. old male Golden Retriever, won the Amateur All-Age stake. Rip is owned by Russ and Sue Foster, and trained and handled by Russ. That was the first all-age stake that Rip and Russ have completed, and only Rip's 7th lifetime All-Age start. Rip and Russ would like to thank everyone in our extended training group for the help, advice and hard work that made this achievement possible. [06/02/98]

 
May 31, 1998: At the North Alabama Retriever Club and Memphis Amateur Retriver Club Double Derby-Qualifying, South Hills Little Sister, handled by Scott Harp of Twin Oaks Kennel, became Qualified All-Age by earning second place in the Qualifying Stake. Sissy is co-owned by Emily Hoffman and Steve Faith of Louisville, Kentucky. At the second Qualifying of the trial, Sande's Big River Casey, also co-owned by Emily Hoffman and Steve Faith and handled by Emily Hoffman, became Qualified All-Age with a First place. Steve Faith also handled their Lab, Southills Wood-He-Do-It, to third place and Sissy received a JAM, handled by Scott Harp. [06/01/98]

 
May 24, 1998: Sassfire Ambhibious Tank MH (M) (Ch Manhatans Shiver Me Timbers MH WDQ X Sassfire's Valley Girl SH WDQ) bred by Stan and Barbara Hoffman and handled by Stan, took a Qualifying JAM at the Lassen RC ft test on May 23-24, 1998. Sister, Amberjax Gracey Girl JH SH (F) earned her Senior Hunter title at the PSLRA hunt test in Monroe Washington. Gracey is owned, trained and handled by Kathleen Erwin. [06/10/98]

May 18, 1998: Chocca-Shaw's Winter Wonder, MH, "Jade" a Curly Coated Retriever, owned, trained, handled and bred by Susan Shaw, just made Curly history by qualifying in 5 tests in a row and earning her "Master Hunter" title. She is the only female Curly Coated Cetriever to ever receive this title and the 2nd over all in the breed. A male had received it 10 years ago! Jade finished up her title at the American Chesapeake Hunting Test, in Newburg, New York under the judging of Jim Drager and Mike Saltzer!! Way to go Jade!!!! [05/24/98]

 
May 17, 1998: The Hoosier HRC held it's spring hunt test on Saturday and Sunday May 16 and 17, near Marion Indiana. Sam's Marshland "Copy" (FC/AFC Chase Manhatten X HRCH Vince's Samantha AKA "Sam") earned her HRCH title. HRCH BLack Swamp's Super Shadow (GRHRCH Super Shooter of Ontario X HRCH Black Swamp's Tri and Tri again) passed both days in the Finished Class. Both were trained and handled by Robert Steiner of Marshland Kennels. [05/24/98]

May 10, 1998: Longbranch Dixie Dancer (NAFC-FC Ebonstar Lean Mac ex Dances With Wolves) won the Amateur All-Age Stake at the Lincoln Trail Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trial. "Dixie" is owned by Jon and Donna Mazzuckelli, and is handled and trained by Jon Mazzuckelli. [05/12/98]

May 9, 1998: Van Lee's Little Rascal (Petey), a chocolate Labrador, completed his Master Hunter title at the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac. Petey was bred by Carroll Lewandowski of Van Lee Kennels of Buffalo, New York, sired by NFC Storms Riptide Star and Van Lee's Daisey Mae MH, who is also QAA. Pete is owned, trained and handled by Greg and Karen Myers of Gaithersburg, Maryland. [05/26/98]

 
May 9, 1998: Ali's Madonna Donna SH CD ** placed Fourth in the Qualifying at the Maryland Retriever Club field trial. Donna and three of her littermates: Ali's October Morn**, Kiowa's AJ** and Ali's Duck Demon** all have Derby and Qualifying placements. Donna was handled by Jay Sweezey and is owned and loved by Pat Boteze -- Pat and Ali, Braevue's Ali McGnaw SH CD WCX Donna, Ali's Madonna Donna SH CD **. (Derby Win) Demi, Ali's Duck Demon ** (Derby and Qualifying placements) Gator, Tigathoe's Golden Gator SH Remy, Sunfire's Remembrance CD. [05/15/98]

 
May 9, 1998: The Great Lakes HRC held their spring Hunt Test and Marshland's Autumn Wind (YLF) passed her second Started test with Alice Steiner handling. HR Sam's marshland Copy (BLF) passed Finished test #3, 1 to go for HRCH. HRCH Butler Creek's Super Shadow (BLF) passed the Finished test. Copy and Shadow were trained and handled by Bob Steiner. May 8, 1998: MHR Manhatan Annie's Uptown Gril MH WDQ (F) (Ch Cutty Sark Koan WDX x Ch Mnhatns Ironguns Apple Annie SH WDQ) bred by Jane and John Bilello and MHR Yukon Jay's Stone E MH WDQ (Honeybear's Yukon Jay CD TD MH WDQ *** X Mackey Lks Kokane Cogley) bred by Burt and Dorothy Fosse of AK, both ribboned at the Richard A. Wolters NAHRA Invitational on May 4-8, 1998 in Mariposa, CA. Cristi and Rocky are owned, trained and handled by Jane Bilello. [06/10/98]

 
May 7, 1998: MHR/WR/SR Corey's Golden Amber SH AG. a Golden Retriver female owned and handled by Laurna Hammond, qualified at the 1998 NAHRA Invitational at the Grupe Ranch outside of Mariposa, California. the weekend of May 4-7, 1998. The Invitational was hosted by the NAHRA Southwest Region Clubs. [05/27/98]

May 3, 1998: Manhattan Annie's Rolling Stone WDQ (M) ** Chestnut Hills Ironwood Oak MH x Ch Mnhatns Ironguns Apple Annie SH WDQ) bred by John and Jane Bilello, owned by Susi and Dave Ritch and handled by Susi Ritch, earned a Qualifying 4th at the Brazosport RC on April 10-12, 1998 and a Qualifying JAM at the Piney Woods RC on May 1-3, 1998. [06/10/98]

May 2, 1998: The Essex HRC held their spring hunt test East of Windsor. The following Marshland Kennels dogs earned passes and championship points. 1- Marshland's Autumn Wind (YLF) passed Started, and was trained and handled by Alice Steiner. 2- HR Sam's Marshland Copy (BLF) passed the Finished test and was handled by Bob Steiner. 3- HRCH Butler Creek's Super Shadow (BLF) passed another Finished test on her way to the Grand Hunt in Canada this Spring. April 27, 1998: Manhatans Chip Off the Rock WD JH (M) (MHR Yukon Jay's Stone E MH WDQ x MHR CH Manhatan Annie's Scooter Pie MH WDQ) bred by Jane and John Bilello and owned by Carl Schultz, finished his AKC JH on April 27, 1998 at the Marin Retriever Club's hunt test in Lodi, CA. [06/10/98]
April 26, 1998: Midnight Shadow Catcher won the Amateur All-Age Stake at the Memphis Amateur Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Retriever Field Trial held near Memphis, Tennessee. "Murphy" was born October 9, 1993. His sire is In The Heat Of The Night and his dam is DC's Golden Shadow. "Murphy" was handled by his owner and trainer, Dr. Gary Trew. [04/26/98]

April 5, 1998: At the Central Michigan HRC Hunt Test near Davison Michigan, HR Butler Creek's Super Shadow BLF (GRHRCH Super Shooter of Ontario X HRCH Black Swamp's Tri N Tri Again) passed her 4th test to earn the title of HRCH on Saturday. In the Hunt Test held on Sunday, by the St. Clair Flats HRC, HR Sam's Marshland Copy passed her 2nd Finished test. Shadow was handled and trained by Bob Steiner of Marshland Kennels. [04/12/98]

March 29, 1998: Chocca-Shaw's Winter Wonder "Jade" a female black Curly Coated Retriever received two qualifying Master legs back to back on the double header weekend of March 27th, 28th and 29. She qualified at Del-Bay Retriever Club's Hunt Test under the judging of Randy Pruitt and John Fallon, and she also qualified at Labrador Retriever Club's Hunt test the same weekend under the judging of Craig Stonesifer and Gene Bird. Jade is 4 years old and is owned, trained and handled and bred by Susan Shaw of Chocca-Shaw Retrievers in Pennsylvania. Jade is the only female Curly Coated Retriever ever get a qualifying leg in a Master stake. [04/12/98]

February 15, 1998: Clipper's Genuine Mink (Dual Ch AFC Coot's Gypsy Clipper MH x Misbehavin Mink) completed her Amateur Field Championship and qualified for the 1998 National Amateur by winning the Amateur All-Age Stake in a field of 72 dogs at the Lassen Retriever Club's AKC-Licensed Field Trial in Anderson, California.
