Field Champion and Amateur Field Champion
Code Blue

Code Blue

August 7, 1990 – August 15, 2000
Code Red x Nikcoal Of North Boundary

The litter that produced Code Blue was bred by Merril and Patty Ling . Jim Heneghan acquired Code blue as an 18 month old dog from a a retired U S Navy captain, Ken Lee, who had been quite successful in developing young dogs. As a Derby Dog Cody had 39 points and in the Qualifying Cody ran 6 times getting two wins, two 2nd's, and two thirds. By the time Cody was two years old he was showing an unusual skill level. From the time Jim had acquired this above average animal he was placed with the trainer Jim Gonia. Gonia developed Code Blue into one of the finest retrievers of all time a true natural. He was high point retriever for 1998 and also that same year he won the Purina High point dog. A photograph of the 1998 Purina High point painting which hangs in the Retriver Museum at Grand Junction, TN is shown here.
Cody, as he was called by Jim Heneghan qualified for seven Nationals. He was a Finalist in 1994 and 1998. Code Blue is listed in the Performance book with 178 ½ Open All-Age and 74 Amateur points. Cody was 10 years old when he died suddenly from cancer. He had finished an open 3 days prior to his death.
Code Blues progeny includes a MH, 15 QAA dogs, and 11 titled dogs. Among these titled offspring is the Candlewoods Rita Reynolds 2001 High point Open dog and Creek Robber, the 2003 and 2004 High point Open dog.
