From a litter bred by Jackie Hill from her QAA female. Lynne and Mac Dubose purchased Gus as a 11 month old puppy from Bandy and Sandy Herman. His training was done by Andy Attar and Mike Lardy. As a young dog Gus had 22 derby points and had completed both titles by three. He qualified for 7 National Amateurs and 5 Nationals. He was a Finalist in 89 and 95 and Won the 92 National Amateur handled by Lynne. In the National Open he qualified for 5 Nationals and was a Finalist in 92. Gustoended his career with 60.5 Open points and 78.5 Amateur points. An induction into the Retriever Hall Of Fame follwed in 2003.
Fourteen titled offspring might be considered his legacy. One of his offspring, Hattie McBunn, did follow his footsteps by winning the 1995 National.
