DOB: August 12, 1964
AFC Beaver Crest's Toreador x Pickrel's Ebony Babe
Guy P.Burnett, a retired Naval officer, judged retriever trials throughout the country,
including the National Open in 1957, and the National Amateur in 1961, and 1966. Guy had completed in 9 National Champioship stakes without winning until the lucky 10th. He was a devoted amateur trainer, and had compiled a fine record with his dogs.
"Lucky", #4 on the 1966 Derby list, was a product of 4 generations of Amateur Field Champions, and 3 generations of Field Champions. Guy must have weaned him on the knowledge that champions breed champions, because between May 1967, and June 1969, he earned approximatly 63 Amateur points and 53 Open all-age points. A stylish hard-going dog, Lucky set a mean pace for his fellow contenders. His win was spectacular, and popular. In addition to the win he was a finalist in the 1970 National Amateur. The doubleheader winner was also the 1969 High Point Amateur dog. Lucky ended his career with 82 Open points and 80.5 Amateur points.
The sire of 27 titled offspring, themselves not really prepotent, but the reason his name is still in the pedigrees is a daughter, Lucky Sootana, whelped the 1974 High Point Derby, 1981 NAFC-FC Dude's Double Or
Nothin'.
