Joan Davis bred her female (Super Chief x Dart of Netley Creek) and offered Roger Reopelle the puppy at eight weeks. Roger was reluctant but finally accepted the puppy and offered to keep Joans name on the papers. He wasn't planning on another trial dog, just a hunting companion for his retired years. But the young dog showed enough talent which resulted in a derby entry. Tar was on the Derby List with 16 points. He qualified for four Nationals. The number of National Amateurs that he qualified for were seven and he was a finalist in 1981.
The number of Canadian Nationals in which he competed at present is unknown, but he was listed in the 1980. Most memorable was the 1985 Canadian National Amateur won by Big River Bonne won and Bunny's parents, Tar and Big River Ruffian were also finalists. Tar had a total of 160 All-age points, with 85 points in the Open and 75 points in the Amateur. Tar lived past 15 and 1/2 years old, the arthritic old dog, in his last season, retrieved 4 of 5 geese. The 5th was left to one of his daughters.
Sire of 19 titled dogs including '85 NFTCH Big River Bonne Amie also a four time National finalist. Twice in Open and two Times in the National amateur. There were 18 other titled dogs. Another of these were also 88 NAFC finalist FC-AFC Raisen Cane of Hiddenbay.
