(Royal’s Moose x Spirit Lake Gal)
Owner: William D. Connor, Colorado Springs, CO
’72 NFC-AFC Royal’s Moose’s Moe (Moose) was purchased by Bill Connor from his original owner, Earl "Doc" Clayton, Spenser, Iowa, in December, after the 1967 National at Mohave Valley, AZ. That was Moose's first National, a Field Champion with 16.5 points, 11.5 points toward his AFC. Previously in the Derby, Moose started 4 Derbies winning all four: (MRC 8-9 '64, MFTA 9-13 '64, MVHC 9-27 '64, NIDC 10-4 '64). Joe Schomer, who was instrumental in Connor acquiring Moose, continued with his training and handled Moose in Opens in 1968 and early 1969. In the fall of 1969, Connor while employed and working in New England, began personally training Moose, and handling him in Licensed Trials. Re comments by Conner - "Moose has been with me constantly,..., in my apartment at night, in my station wagon during the day; a greater companion one could not find.
Bill characterized Moose as: "so placid in his surroundings, yet such intense desire to find the birds... this has been Mooses's patented style, combined with exceptional marking and lining consistency."
Moose qualified for 7 National Opens, 6 National Amateur Trials and accumulated 209 All-Age points - 99 ½ Open and 109 ½ Amateur.
