Bred by John K. Wallace, Clayton, MO, and owned by Paul Bakewell III of St. Louis, MO. An avid duck hunter who bought a golden retriever pup for training to retrieve his downed waterfowl. No one would have predicted the level of success he might have with this pup. The pup he purchased at a few weeks of age would become the first Golden Retriever to win the Open in the new sport of Field Trials and the first golden to achieve the title Field Champion. The dog named, Rip, was to earn the title of “Outstanding Retriever of the Year and received the “Field and Stream” Trophy for 1939 and for the second time in 1940.
According to K9data.com there were three golden females bred to FC Rip. The first CH. Rockhaven Glory, the second Rockhaven Queen, and the third Rockhaven Judy.Each of the females were bred multiple times, but only the final two produced qualified all-age dogs.
