(Highlander’s Bojangles x Mi-Cris Black Lady)
Owner: Mrs. George Murnane, Syosset, Long Island, NY
’71 Mi-Cris Sailor (Sailor) was purchased at 18 months by Mrs. George Murnane and her Macopin Kennels. Sailor’s talent was recognized by his original owner, Lloyd Jarvi of Ontario, Canada, and sold to provide him the opportunity to realize his full potential. At Macopin Kennels, Sailor was placed under the training and guidance of Joe Riser who ran him throughout his competitive career.
Sailor had never been entered in any trial in the U.S. prior to his purchase. Being eighteen months old, he was a late starter for Derbies, but earned 32 points despite that handicap. He ran only four Qualifying stakes, all at less than twenty months of age, and earned a 1 st, two 2 nd s and a 4 th.. While still a derby dog, Sailor ran 3 Open All-Age Stakes and completed three, being awarded 2 JAM’s. Sailor qualified for the 1968 National Open at 27 months of age and completed eight series!
In the spring of 1969, Sailor continued his winning ways by placing in 11 out of 14 Opens – a 78% completion average!! Unfortunately, he suffered an injury and was unable to train or trial for more than a year.
Sailor never ran an Amateur stake, but accumulated 93 Open points in his distinguished career.
